Thanksgiving Prayer Service

  • St. Stephen's Episcopal Church 19 South 10th St. Philadelphia, PA (map)

The service will include three readings followed by prayer and time for silence and reflection.

In offering this Prayer Service, we at Saint Stephen's are thinking about how, in these times, it is often so difficult to maintain an attitude of gratitude.

In his book, Thoughts in Solitude (1958), Thomas Merton tells us that ....

"To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything we have been given--and God has given us everything .Every breath is a gift of God's love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from God. Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God.

For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference"  (p.42)

Please join us if you can for this timely service on grace and gratitude in the time of Thanksgiving.
